OMG will I get to wear one of those belts? You know… with the holster and compartments

How do New Orleanians come up with their Halloween costume ideas?
Costumes are important here and there are two different kinds: Halloween and Mardi Gras.
The difference, I’m enjoying thinking, is like the difference between a violin and a fiddle.
(As defined by ‘The Tipsy Chicks’ fiddle player… “a fiddle’s had a rum & coke spilled on it”.)
Since Bingo! will be performing Halloween weekend, which means I will be wandering out and about on Frenchmen St. this year. I have to actually get the ideas rambling about in my head together and decide on a costume idea. A decent one. I asked someone last night “So have you thought of what you might want to dress up as for Halloween? (This could have been B as he was sitting next to me but I’d been sitting there sipping for 3 hours so… hmm) The response was surprise for it being so early in the month to be already planning it. My response, or answer, was to simply lean in and get Leah’s attention…
“Leah what are you going to be for Halloween?” Her eyes widened and an excitable grin emerged as the answer rushed from her mouth like a secret that’s fun to share. Making my point that to not have thought about it already is late in the game.
Leah will be opening the bar that day and all I’m going to say is this… music being played will be Disco… allllll Disco. (I’m totally going to have to stop by!)
This is because New Orleanians ponder their costume ideas year round. They store ideas that pop up in April into little “costume idea” compartments that have developed in their brains, or they purchase odd items found in little shops.
“Uhm, Andrea what are you going to do with a cracked monocle?..”
“I don’t know, but it might be perfect for something, sometime.”
(I don’t actually *have* an old cracked monocle but I think it would be totally cool to have one as it would go with my top hat and various mustaches.)
B and I came up with a couple ideas… I had been thinking as long as I can wear my top hat I will be happy, or… marionette figurine of a sort. Perhaps a combination… Imagery hadn’t completely formed yet. Last night I thought the perfect costume for B. would be to hang a plaquard around his neck that says “Designated Driver” with some keys on it and give him a bottle of water… and he’d hang out with me all night and that would match up perfectly as the only water in the cup I’ll be carrying will be ice. Further into the night however I might have to beat people away from him saying “It’s a costume! and he’s mine anyway! Stay back you drunkards!!”
But then we came up with another idea that incorporates our love of taking pictures (of funny people) and I get to wear a cool hat and a badge! I just have to find a cop uniform now. B. already has an actual yellow prison thingy. (nice word choice right? yehh-i-know)
OMG! Bryan!!! It just came to me!!! I could be Holly Hunter and you could be Nic Cage in ‘Raising Arizona’ (“You go back up there and get me a baby Hi!) I would LOVE to pretend to be Holly Hunter all night! You know with your prison jumper and my cop ensemble and camera
Or.. if all our plans fall through you could always just put on a windbreaker, wear panty hose on your head and carry a pistol and some Pampers around. That would be f*cking awesome… except that you’d have to wear the panty hose on your head all night. (*sigh* nevermind)
Who’s excited about *their* costumes yet? and who knows where I can locate a police shirt for a tiny skinny girl, a baton perhaps
and one of those cool f*cking hats with a real badge on it? I don’t want to have to resort to a plastic sexy cop costume kit.
I can make the real one sexy, I want a real looking one! OMG will I get to wear one of those belts? You know… with the holster and compartments all on it, like for bullets which I could carry my lip balm and extra camera batteries in
